Here is my latest
build, an RAF Phantom FGR2 from the early 90's. This was a retirement scheme for
when the aircraft was withdrawn from German bases. As usual for my builds, it's
based on a photograph I took, this one from the Air Tournament
International at Boscome Down in 1992.

The Hasegawa kit
needs no introduction, it builds up pretty well. I added the following extras to
add some more detail to it: -
Aires cockpit -
Typical Aires, superb detail but lots of patience required to fit.
Aires exhausts -
Again detail very good but not a lot of thought went into how well they fit to the
kit. You have to do a fair bit of sanding to reduce the diameter of the barrels,
otherwise they sit completely wrong on the kit.
Seamless Suckers
Intakes - Look good now they're on but headaches a plenty to get them fitted. I
must have cut them out 3 times and resanded before they finally looked right.
Check Six decals - Not the best at
first glance, bit thick, but they turned out ok.
Model was finished
with a combination of Humbrol & Xtracolour enamels and gloss varnish. Decals
went on with Micoset & Sol and sealed in with Xtracrylix matt varnish.
All in all a very
enjoyable kit to build and am pleased with outcome, especially considering that
it's only my third build in from a 15 year plus sabatical from modelling. The
break obviously did me good because I'm trying things now that I wouldn't have
contemplated back then.
Hope you enjoy the
pictures.
