1/48 Italeri A-10 Thunderbolt II

Here is my A-10 Thunderbolt built right out of the box.  The best thing about this model is the fine panel lines which are quite impressive compared to many Italeri models.  Other pluses include the option for open ailerons as air-deflectors, crew ladder, avionics bay and the refueling pod.  The armament stores are not too bad either.

Its a pity the cockpit instrument panels are detailed with only decals which doesn't quite do the job.  The only problem I had during construction is that lots of filing had to be done while putting the wings onto the fuselage as they don't quite fit together.  Other details added were the brake lines for the landing gears which were made out of thin lockwire and then painted over, additional twisted cables in the avionics compartment and a chrome piston actuator for the canopy just aft of the pilot's seat.

This is actually my first serious model where I can test my skills and to detail it as much as I can without any aftermarket products. I had tons of models for the last 20 odd years and thought this model would be good as an experiment.
