Silly Week 2011

Slave 1 first made its appearance on the big screen in Star Wars Empire Strikes Back under the command of bounty hunter Boba Fett.  Slave 1 was reborn in the second Star Wars prequel movie, Attack of the Clones.  In this movie, Slave 1 was piloted by Janga Fett, Boba’s father.  Janga also had the distinction of being the father of the clones who would become the Empire’s Stormtroopers.

Fine Molds has released the Slave 1 in two versions, Janga Fett’s and Boba Fett’s.  My model is the former.  Fine Molds has represented the Slave 1 very well.  There is plenty of detail and the kit goes together with little fuss.

I built the model out of the box and painted it in accordance with the instruction sheet.  I weathered the model using oil burnt umber and black washes followed by drybrushing of light grays.  The bottom “industrial” area received drybrushing of different metallic colours to bring out the details.  I replicated blast marks by airbrushing flat black in splotches and then using my drybrushing brush loaded with silver I tapped the tip in the black splotches.  After sealing with a flat clear, I used Bragdon Enterprises weathering powders.  This was a first for me and I was very pleased with the results.

Enjoy the model.
