1/72 Mini Hobby Models RSAF F5S Tiger II

Gallery Article by Gerard Chua on Sept 2 2011

This RSAF F5S Tiger II was built out of the box from Mini Hobby Models kit. The lines are very nicely etched on the kit. I made some minor modifications. Firstly, the original canopy did not fit properly and so I used the canopy from an old Italeri kit in it's place. I also replaced the original pilot with a more modern pilot from Hasegawa. Lastly, I also added a HUD.

I painted the model using a paint brush with a mix of colors from Gunze Sangyo Mr Color and Humbrol.

The decals are from Siam Scale (S/N 72025) which is very detailed. The decals have already been out of production for some time, but thankfully I managed to obtain an out of print copy from the owner of Siam Scale himself - Alan Sim. The aircraft is shown in the markings of RSAF 149 Squadron (Shikra) which is in transition to the F-15SG Strike Eagle.

I wasn't able to buy the refuelling probe off the shelf and have omitted it on the model.

Happy belated 46th National Day Singapore!
