  Indonesia Independence Day

One of the Indonesian modelers did on the International Museum Day festivities was to add, repairing and cleaning all the models in the Indonesian Air Force Museum “Dirgantara Mandala”-Yogyakarta, where we donated our models to in 2010. The International Museum Day itself is celebrated every May 18.

About the display of the models can be read here : http://www.arcair.com/Gal11/10101-10200/gal10133-Models-Sidharta/00.shtm

The models are displayed in a glass case to protect them. But as time goes by, there is some damages that occured due to some shaking caused by the visitors who anxiously want to see the models closely. Dust also covered all the models, so we clean them and added sealers to the glass boxes.

Modelers involved were from local and other cities, to name are Yhanuar and Hiddan from SMoKE (Semarang Model Kit Enthusiasts), Harry Nugroho from Solo and myself from Jakarta. While from Yogyakarta, Sinang Aribowo, Datta H (and his girlfriend), Vincent Ariyono and Bambang brought everything needed. From modeling tools to cleaning tools. That helps a lot!

Theo Aji, a photographer, joined us to capture the moments.

We finalized the activity by having lunch together with the IdAF Museum Chief, Col. Sudarno who willingly sit with us on the floor !

In this occasion, we added 5 more models to the collections, all in 1/72 :

  • Photo 7. Hawk Mk.53 : This advanced trained has just retired in March 2015. Sinang made the same serial of the last flight Hawk.

  • Photo 8. Vampire T.11 : Vampire was the first jet aircraft owned by the Indonesian AF in early 50s. This little Airfix kit is a jewel. Sinang made it using his own printed decal.

  • Photo 9. TA-4J Skyhawk : Using Fujimi kit, Sinang added the long exhaust and his own printed decal.

  • Photo 10. UF-2 Albatross : made using the ancient Monogram kit, I added the bulkhead just aft the cockpit and used Sinang’s printed decal.

  • Photo 11. Ki-79 Banteng : A lesser known trainer taken from Japanese, Ki-79 is known as “Banteng” (or Bull) in Indonesia. Rahman built the RS Model kit nicely.

Still a lot of models to do as our goals is to make every models of Indonesian AF aircrafts/helicopters but surely we will go for it. This is a small gift we give to our beloved country and Air Force in modelers’ way.
