Indonesia Independence Day

The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-15 was a jet fighter aircraft developed by Mikoyan-Gurevich OKB for the Soviet Union. It was one of the first successful jet fighters to incorporate swept wings to achieve high transonic speeds. In combat over Korea, it outclassed straight-winged jet day fighters which were largely relegated to ground attack roles, and was quickly countered by the similar American swept-wing F-86 Sabre. The MiG-15 is often mentioned, along with the North American F-86 Sabre, as the best fighter aircraft of the Korean War.

The MiG-15 is believed to have been one of the most widely produced jet aircraft ever made, with over 12,000 were manufactured. Licensed foreign production may have raised the production total to over 18,000. The MiG-15UTI is the two-seat dual-control jet trainer, which also serve as the main trainer for the following MiG series

The Indonesian Air Force acquired its MiG-15UTIs in 1961 and used it as trainers during the preparation of Operation Trikora in 1962 in Western New Guinea (now Papua and West Papua).

The Kit
This is the Hobby Boss 1/72 kit which is part of their easy assembly series as the number of parts are minimal. The fuselage halves came in upper and lower parts, which results in loss of details when cleaned after assembly. Trouble came when I wanted to assembly the brakes in the closed position, which is not possible without modification. But I was too lazy to do the modification and settled with the open position. Painted using rattlecan. Decals are from CJM.
