Here are some photos of my A6M2a model 11 Zero from Hasegawa.  Markings are for the 12 Kokutai, pilot is unknown at the moment.  This version made it's debut in China sometime in 1940.
Paints used were AK interactive and Tamiya acrylic paints.

According to research, a tarp was placed on the cockpit/fuselage area when it wasn't in flight, hence the two colors. I followed any pictures I found of this variant as best as I could.  As for the research, I looked it up on J-aircraft.com and other sites I don't remember off hand.

I used the AK Interactive Amber gray as my base and with some masking, I simulated the lighter areas by using Tamiya XF-12 JN gray heavily thinned and spraying a couple coats, checking after each pass to avoid a stark contrast.  This was quite nerve wracking because I never did this before.
