1/72 Italeri MiG-29A

The airplane by itself became one of my favorites in the early 90's. It also became one of the reasons why I started model building those years, because one of my brothers had one built at the time. Ironically, I had not built one until now! I started simple: Italeri's 1/72 kit. At first, looked very basic in terms of detail compared with "modern" kits.

Indeed, a couple of areas in the fuselage required filling & sanding - engine covers. I did enhance the pilot's seat scratch building some basic elements - bits of plastic, & masking tape. Amazingly, after painting, the control panel came out to be pretty nice!

The kit includes two basic versions. The one shown in the cover came to be my selection. It reminded me of some pictures back then when the airplane made its appearance in the Farnborough Air Show.

I did work out the tube with some stretched sprue. Missiles went on with some artistic license artistic license as the decals sheet is a kind of scarce. Weathering was applied using artist oils on a Tamiya's Clear surface. I did put it aside of my F-16 as I have heard these two are supposed to be direct competitors. The kit was a very tangible proof of sometimes, less is more! Hope you enjoy & greeting from Mexico City's Metropol!
