Good day ARC’ers ;

Ever since 1991, I have been interested in putting together a Desert storm diorama depicting some of the equipment used in the campaign.

I will focus on the “aerial area” of my models construction.

MH-60 G PAVEHAWK:

The 1/35 scale ACADEMY model was an obvious choose because of all the other equipment depicted.

She was constructed mostly OOB except for the scratch built minigun gunner.

The cammo pattern was selected because of the few PAVEHAWKS that actually used such scheme in 1991.

A-10´s

Although I didn´t follow a realistic principle for the decals, I wanted them to be shown in an “aggressive scheme “. The scale is unknown to me, because they were purchased as die-cast models in a “museum shop “, and re-painted by me using model master and other paints for an “ European scheme “.

A-10 1/32 TRUMPETER ;

I chose the huge 1/32 Trumpeter kit, and proceeded to purchase all of the extra items I could find. The main ones were: Eduards photoetched detail sets for interior, exterior and armament, Cutting Edge decals, Blackbox cockpit set, CAM resin bombs...

Though my finished model is not constructed following the "realistic sake"  principle, I wanted the hog to be presented with everything it can carry nowadays,  emphasizing its awesome firepower.

Also I decided to include a pilot that would be realistic as  possible -  and proceeded to find  one... to no avail !  After a looong search looking for something that might remotely resemble an A-10 pilot, I came around a Verlinden 3 figure piece called The Ace that  could just do.

I proceeded to "adapt" the pilot to the desired pose. I made several minor modifications to convert the pilot from a Vietnam era to a  modern look. I also scratch built the MBU 12 oxygen mask and the HGU-55 flight helmet along with.

F-117 Toxic Avenger

The TAMIYA 1/48 model was chosen because of a great deal and because of the availability at the time of VERLINDEN´s  various resin kits.

I used the VERLINDEN´s  cockpit, interior and armament kit and the included “Toxic Avenger” decals.

All of the models, were painted using an IWATA HP BCS airbrush, and a combination of various paints including Model Masters, Floquil, Tamiya, etc.

Hope you like the diorama.

Best regards;

E. Alfonso
