1/48 Aeroclub Multi-Media Kit "Hawker Hunter T8"

Gallery Article by Bill Clark on Aug 7 2003

This was probably the better of the early Multi Media kits issued by Aeroclub.
The fuselage was split horizontally - in two vacuum formed shells, with wings. The leading/trailling edges were injection moulded and the cockpit details in white metal.

Building a two seater Hunter in 1/48th is PROBABLY easier to achieve by using the Aeroclub conversion set grafted onto the Academy kit, (see my 4FTS T7 in the Gallery) but 10 years ago - this was the only way to go!

My T8 is finished in the standard Fleet Air Arm scheme of Light Aircraft Grey with Signal Red triangles of FRADU (though I think the tailplanes should have red "bites" as well! Ooops!)

This aircraft was loaned to 208 Sqn RAF in 1980, following the grounding of the RAF's Buccaneer's fleet after one had crashed at Nellis AFB in a Red Flag exercise.

Two seat Hunters (and a handful of single seaters) flew with the Buccaneer units as there were no "trainer" Buccaneers. Some Hunters had Buccaneer type instruments added to aid in conversion.

Any queries or comments, good or bad(!) please feel free to E-mail or post comments on the Forum.
