After WWII on Czechoslovak territory were a number of planes left behind by the Luftwaffe, mainly Messerschmitts Bf-109 versions G and K. Aircraft were restored by Avia and used by Czechoslovak Air Force and Police as S-99. But soon due to the  lack of the original DB-605 engines, only 21 S-99 and 29 CS-99 (two seaters) were produced and were soon replaced with S-199 (where DB-605 was replaced with Jumo 211). The aircraft depicted here served with Czechoslovak Police Air Corps originally carrying civilian marking (probably) OK-BYH.  When the A/C was taken from active duty, it was flying in Aircraft Research Institute. The marking was oversprayed and replaced with test code number.

The kit was one of new Revell toolings and was built OOB. The fit was very good, no filler needed. Details were nice too, main shortcomings were the propeller with too short and narrow blades and thick canopy. The kit was airbrushed with acrylic AeroMaster Air Superiority Grey, the red portions were handbrushed with Revell enamel with help of masking tape.  Marking overspray was airbrushed with alcohol Agama RLM02 and post-it masks. Stencils are from box (they were in reality in Czech, not German, but were tiny enough to let them be), the code number and Czech insignia were printed on clear decal film using color laser printer. The Czech insignia was then placed on solid white decal, cut to shape and then applied to model. For setting decals I used future, for panel lines emphasizing future tinted with brown and black. Final coat was airbrushed Humbrol satin varnish, exhaust stains were done with pastel chalk.

Happy modelling

Radim
