My first thought when I got the Albatros’ Thunderchief decal was starting to build my Hasegawa in the next day. But,… it was a couple years ago.

So, when our local club held a gathering themed “sexy nose arts” I decided to start it… at last.

It is an old mould Hasegawa F-105D (an –B, actually) with raised panel lines, over simplified cockpit (a.k.a. only the floor provided) , bare wheel bay, etc, etc…  I wanted to build it OOB at first but added cockpit consoles, wheel well and rescribed all the panel lines….

I modified the model a little as per Albatros’ instruction to represent an early F-105D, painted it silver with Tamiya Spray “Silver Leaf” and all other paints using Humbrol, Tamiya, Model Master, Vallejo & Gunze’s.

Decaling went smoothly except the US insignia and “USAF” letter which are too small. I used my spares instead. Albatros doesn’t give the bottom view so I had to dig my references to place the insignias on bottom wings.

I weathered my Thud using pastel chalk and finished it all with a coat of Gunze’s Flat Clear Spray.

The MER, M-117 bombs and the jamming pod are from Hasegawa weapon set. As it’s seldom a Thud seen without M-117 hanging under it, so mine must has it too..…
