I
present to you my build of a well-known Sci-Fi figure of the eighties : the
Macross Valkyrie. It originally appeared in the Macross anime on TV in
1982 (it was called Robotech in the US and Europe) which was followed by a movie
called “Macross-Do you remember love?” for those who can remember it. I built the VF-1S version of the Valkyrie (there are also –A and –J versions). It’s heavily armed to the teeth and is piloted by Roy Focker (Skull sq. leader, obviously inspired by Jolly Rogers skull & bones scheme). The story of this character is quite simple : he saved his friends from the evil Zeantradis invaders by his own sacrifice piloting his machine.
I
chose to build an in-flight model, for that I used the Hasegawa Macross stand
which, after all, is not that beautiful (maybe it will be replaced later…), it’s
too big compared to the finished model. I also used the Hasegawa
photo-etched part specially designed for this model and a pilot figure taken
from the Macross weapon set. This kit is a hard build as there are a lot of parts to assemble separately, anyway, I find the finished model quite convincing and worth the work given on it. The
kit is painted with Gunze colours : white FS17875 H316, a mix of navy blue H54
and medium blue H56 at a ratio of 3/2
for the jet packs parts and RLM75 grey violet H69 for the big machine gun under
belly. The weathering consists only of a black juice in the structure lines.
Finish is gloss for the aircraft and satin for the jet packs and weapons. There
are three decal options, the one I built with yellow parts, the second is mainly
the same with red parts instead of yellow and the third with blue parts. Hasegawa
has done a big series of Macross kits which are quite interesting for those who
like Sci-Fi or original kits, so why not ??… Pierrig Want info? Try here : http://steelfalcon.com/macross/vf1s.shtml
