1/48 Tamiya P-51D

in Bare Metal Foil

This is my recently finished Tamiya P-51D kit finished in Bare Metal Foil© (NOT the kitchen foil). This was my first attempt at using BMF on a model so it was a slow process. The foil had to be attached one panel at a time, to keep wrinkling to a minimum. The key to using BMF is to have a VERY sharp knife throughout the process. If the blade gets dull, it will tear the foil and not cut it, leaving a jagged edge.

After the foil was applied, I then put on the superscale decals. These gave me trouble as they would wrinkle and not snuggle down. Luckily it is not that noticeable. After the decals were applied, I brushed on two coats of future to protect the finish.

I also decide to jazz up the interior with a Black Box cockpit.

Overall the kit came out pretty good for my first attempt at using Bare Metal Foil. Just wait until you see my next foil project! It is going to be BIG!
