I thought ARC readers might be interested in my attempt to build a static display quality model for actual flight. I have combined my plastic and RC model experience to build a 1:18 scale B-17G as accurately and as detailed as my ability allowed. The entire model is covered in aluminum tape with raised rivet detail embossed from the back side of the tape. All scale details such as guns and antenna were scratch built with a resin casting process including the crew where I used 20th Century toys as mold masters and modified them. The model is powered by 4 electric motors, has retractable landing gear and weighs 7.7lbs Click on images below to see larger images My subject is B-17G tail number 297976, “A Bit ‘O Lace”, a familiar and often modeled aircraft. I chose this subject because she was a combat veteran and so many photographs exist of her. This EAM model is suitable for both flight and static display. The wingspan is 72”. The Kit includes a fiberglass fuselage, foam cores for flying surfaces and vacu-formed cowls and clear plastic. It is available at www.eam.net
Thank you for letting me share my model. A video including flight footage can be found on YouTube at this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=topydKCULBQ Thanks ARC for a great web site where I found a lot of useful info for my project. Ed Click on images below to see larger images
