  Canada Day 2007

Here are some 1/48 scale Monogram CF-101 Canadian Voodoos.  Canada got some 133 of these things in 3 batches.  The first batch of 66 was a direct replacement for the CF-100 Canuck.  The Canuck WAS to be replaced by the very futuristic CF-105 Avro Arrow.  Well......we all know what happened to the Arrow. The Voodoo was looked at by the Royal Canadian Air Force in the past and found........wanting.  Well, we were not going to get the plane we wanted and as nothing else was on the drawing board in Canada....or would be again  :(

We had to accept the last 66 Voodoos of the McDonnell line in 1959.  In the early 1970's the Voodoo were wearing out.  The US had recently disbanded some 7 air defense squadrons and had all kinds of extra 101's that they were not using.  Some were even pulled from long term dessert storage and modernized. 66 updated Voodoos came to Canada in exchange for our worn out survivors.

In the early 80s we leased one more as an electronic aggressor.

All 4 models are the Monogram 1/48 scale Voodoo. The first is a 1959 style, 17410 of 410 squadrons in Uplands (Ottawa) Ontario. The decals are from Belcher Bits. Modifications include, removal of the IR nose sensor, removal of the slime lights and removal of the ground control antenna. This model was just finished for the century series group build.

The bird, is of the second batch, 101012 of 409 squadron based at CFB (Canadian Forces Base) Comox British Columbia. The special scheme was done for the 1977 presentation of the squadron colours. The decals are from CanMilAir. This plane was built recently for the Monogram group build.

The third model is 101010. Also of 409 Squadron. These were the final standard markings worn by the fleet up too the 1984 switch to the CF-188 Hornet. These decals are from Leading Edge.

The last model is the electric jet. 101067, decals from Belcher Bits. Also a little scratch building to represent the extra antennas.

The last two photos show were they currently sit on the shelf.
