This kit is the 1/48th scale Monogram 85-5843(Century Series) I purchased off Ebay back in September '06 after returning from vacation on Vancouver Island in British Columbia after I visited the Comox museum while there.  There it was, the  gate guard Hawk One Voodoo.  So from seeing that, I wanted to build one as soon as I got back home.  Now I got the kit in the scale I wanted, but there was a problem finding decals for this bird.  So I contacted Bill at CanMilAir decals in Feb '07 and this did not sound hopeful as to my project, but Bill was persistent in wanting a satisfied customer and also adding to his inventory of already every possible decal scheme available for Canadian military aircraft past and present.  In came March and so it was!  Thank you Bill for what you offer the Canadian air modeller.

To start with the kit I personally am satisfied with it as the detail is very good.  I decided not to add on any aftermarket details.  After washing and dry fitting I noticed the instructions asked me to glue the fuselage together, then inserted the cockpit, nose gear, armament bay.  DOES NOT FIT, so gluing to one side works best.  Also I had to file down the running lights as CAF Voodoo's did not have them [except for only one] and re-working with the air intake scoop just left of nose gear required putty and sculpting to look like the second batch of 101B's.  Also adding and detailing other areas [Thanks to Lou's help on this also with info he sent me].
Now that everything was done [filling and sanding, washing and re-priming-flat white], it was time for the paint.  I used Model Master enamel #2764 [Grabber Blue] mixed 45% with 55% Model Master flat white and airbrushed light coats, 6 total over entire aircraft, as I found this to be as close to the off pale blue.  Later it was time for masking off and appling Model Master Flat black, removed masks and let her sit a while. Returning 3 days later I then applied Tremclad clear sheen right from the can![one light coat].  Two days later it was time to apply the decals I bought from Bill.  Following the directions he supplies with the decals produces that painted on look!  After the decals were all on and set I decided to also add the claw decals [that came with the kit ] to the main gear doors.  I thought it gave a more of a "Hawk One" look [yes I know none of these where on Canadian Voodoo's, but I like it ].  Well that's one less kit out of the closet... ;}
