CC-137 is the
appellation of the military version of the Boeing 707. The kit I used was
of Air Force 1; I made it into a Canadian 707 transport from 437 squadron with
the help of Camilair decals. I can't say enough about the usefulness and
quality of those decals. They brought what I thought was a poor
representation of the airliner to a standard that actually passes casual muster
and looks surprisingly realistic. The windows and doors decals really add
to the effect. Note that you would have to order 3 sets to make this
aircraft; the basic set, then choose your marking era (symmetrical in my case),
and add windows and doors.

I have only made this
aircraft in this scale. The biggest mistake made was the choice of
white paint for the top of the fuselage. I used a can of Testors
spray enamel, but it went on way too thick and dripped everywhere.
This is the last time I'll use that paint. I ended up scraping off lots
of the dripping paint from the lower fuselage, and found that it ruined
the upper wing detail. So don't look too closely, OK? This was
mostly a labour of love. I crossed the Atlantic as a teenager
multiple times in this beast, when my father was stationed in Germany.
It also got me around within Canada when it flew the milk runs from
Trenton Ontario. I saw it from the outside when I refuelled on many
trips with my CF-18 Hornet. This big white cow will always bring
back a myriad of memories. I will always admire it from a distance
on my shelf - just like the memories it represents, it will be better if
not examined too closely! :-)
