This is the all resin PJ Productions
kit of the Meteor F Mk 8, finished in 54 Squadron markings form Xtradecal.
Being an all resin kit it is quite heavy especially as everything in front of
the c of g is solid resin to avoid a tail sitter (it still needed some
additional lead packed in as well). In order to avoid strain on the resin
u/c this was modified so that it is built around a length of brass rod that
starts in the wing and goes right into the middle of the wheel.
Quality of the resin casting was excellent with only a few air bubbles needing
to be filled. Fit was also very good. The two main problems associated
with the kit are the shape of the wing tips which were not square enough and had to be replaced with plastic strip and sanded to shape. Also
maybe because of shrinkage the kit scales out smaller than 1/72nd scale, not
much can be done about this but since it is too small in all dimensions it still
looks like a Meteor. RAF roundels were from the kit and went on fine and
the squadron markings from Xtradecal were excellent.
I thoroughly enjoyed making this kit and maybe I will buy an MPM/Hannants
injection moulded T7 for comparison sometime.
