GA-M,
RAAF 21Sqn Sg Pertani, Dec 1941 By Thomas Ng This
build was inspired by CK Loo’s Buffalo, I want to build the RAAF 21 SQN that
was base in Sungai Pertani during WWII as part of the
SFTPMS's August 2008 Merdeka Group Build (MGB08), there
was a total of 18 Buffaloes in Sg Pertani but most were bombed on the ground as
in the opening of the war on 8-Dec, only 2 managed to take off on that day but
had serious gun malfunction. This fit of this kit is quite
good, despite being a 30 years old kit, the canopy came in 1 piece, it was sawed
into 3 pieces to be displayed in the open position. Since there is no after market
decals, the fuselage code GA-M was masked and spray, and the como
colors used are Dark Earth and Dark Green from Gunze range over the Tamiya’s
Sky and flat black on the belly. After painting, a coat of Future
was applied to prepare the surface for decal, the RAF roundel was taken from the
kit, and the Boxing ROO emblems and Serial # was custom printed. Finally Black
Enamel wash was applied on the whole aircraft. An electronic vibrator motor was added for the spinning prop and This Buffalo (amongst others) will be part of the August 2008 Merdeka Group Build (MGB08) Diorama for our local club, please visit SFTPMS at http://malaysiascalemodelling.com/index.php Click on images below to see larger images GA-B,
RAAF 21Sqn Sg Pertani, Dec 1941 By Brian Param This was build for the diorama planned by the Scale model society of Malaysia. These Buffalos served in then Malaya and defended the sky from Japanese fighters. I built this trying out the salt chipping technique and I'm pleased with the results. All in all it was weathered well ....and perhaps a tad over. But I was going for the effect. Hope you like my contribution to our local group build diorama...The ready room modeled by one of the members is simply out of this world.
Kit
was the Tamiya Buffalo ....build out of box paint was gunze colours with custom
roo squadron markings. The Base is something which I done long time ago. I used plastercine molded to shape and white glue to glue the railway grass and stones.......(bit big) and airbrushed different shades of brown and tan.
