Recently, some new update sets arrived at my local hobby shop just before our club meeting and this particular detail set caught my eye.  Being a big fan of the Mig-29 aircraft, I knew I had to have it.  The price is a little steep, about $43 US, but you do get a lot with the kit.  First off, you get 27 crisply molded, light grey resin parts, including flattened wheels, a full cockpit, detailed ejection seat, weapon pylons, fuse box, and a pair of gorgeous afterburner cans.  The burner cans are especially impressive, with both inner and outer exhaust nozzles delicately molded into 1 piece with fine detail on both the inner and outer surfaces.  The ejection seat is superbly detailed and is similar in quality to your Black Box ejection seats.  FM Details also include an acetate film for the cockpit guages, which makes for an attractive instrument panel.

The photoetch fret features 72 parts for detailing both the cockpit and exterior of the aircraft.  The PE parts feature nice relief and should prove to make for an intensively detailed cockpit!  Many of these parts are frighteningly small, and will require some tender loving care (as well as some magnification) to install.   Though they should look great once they're all attached!

From studying my Mig-29 reference photos (mostly Verlinden's Mig-29 LockOn), accuracy seems to be right on.  This FM detail set will greatly improve the Academy cockpit, which isn't horrible, but severely lacks in detail.  I myself have already begun construction with the set and will hopefully have a buildup article later this summer on ARC.  Fans of the Mig-29 will most assuredly enjoy this set, that is, if they're willing to deal with the heavy price tag!
