DHC-2 Beaver Selection

Antarctic Aviation series (Part 1)

Product # 4808

Review by Steve Bamford

This is another selection of decals in 1/48 scale covering the Beaver that flew for various countries in Antarctica.  It's no surprise that these Canadian built aircraft were able to adapt in the Antarctic climate.... afterall....if these planes can conquer the Canadian wilderness and climate, then they would be well suited to the harsh climatic conditions of the South Pole region.  This just released decal sheet remembers one of the mainstay aircraft types of the Antarctic.  Included in this decal sheet are markings for 4 different Beavers from 4 different countries.  Two of the 4 Beavers on this decal sheet have wheels and two of the beavers have floats.

The quality of the decals is very clear and in register.....in other words....you will be quite satisfied with the high quality of the decals.

Decal option #1 is a Beaver of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition in 1956-57.  The colour scheme is overall orange with black areas including the glare panel.

Decal option #2 is a Beaver float plane of the Royal Australian Airforce in 1962.  The colour scheme is overall orange with silver painted floats.
Decal option #3 is a Beaver float plane of the Chilean Airforce circa 1961.  The colour scheme of this Beaver is overall silver with Dayglo Orange panels.
Decal option #4 is a Royal New Zealand Air Force Antarctic Flight 1957-58.  The colour scheme of this Beaver is overall Bright Red with black areas including the glare panel.

As a side note....these markings and more are also available in 1/72 from Max Decals.

(resolution of decal sheet has been reduced and scan altered to protect the art work)

The printing quality of these decals is clear, in-register and first rate quality.
