1/48 Hasegawa F-104C Starfighter

This is the new 1/48 F-104C cockpit set with masters created by Jef Verswijvel himself. Jef clearly demonstrates again with this set that he knows how to create detail in resin sets. These 17 cream colored resin parts are a decent improvement over the Hasegawa parts, which is saying something, because the Hasegawa kit is new tooling and of very high quality. For me...the sweetest part of this set is the ejection seat and the HUD area. These two items will stand out the most in the completed model and they are oooozzzzing with detail beyond the wild imaginations of modelers of not too many years ago. The cockpit tub has more detail than the kit parts ,but the seat will definitely steal the show here. A modeler would have to paint the cockpit tub up pretty impressively for it to even catch anyone's eye with this beautiful seat in the way. As nice as the kit instrument panel is...the instrument panel in this set is much more 3 dimensional in nature and detail rich....you have to see the detail to believe it. Although the photo below makes the instrument panel look almost chunky and crude.....you have to remember this instrument panel is smaller than my thumbnail.....with the naked eye the detail looks accurate and very, very delicate. The seat fits well in the cockpit tub and the instrument panel is identical in size to the kit part, so fit should be perfect. The tub is a nice fit in the kit, but you will be required to sand the bottom of the cockpit tub to get the proper fit....but all this is detailed in the instruction sheet. The large instruction sheet covers the complete assembly including basic painting instructions for the seat. All in all a very well done set with good fit qualities.
