The Fw-190D is a very special plane. I find it the best looking prop fighter produced be Germany during WW2. It has the looks of moving very fast when it is sitting on the ground parked. Although the Tamiya kit is quite nice.....the exhausts are sadly lacking. Fortunately Ultracast has come to the rescue.

There are a few areas on a piston engined aircraft model that stand out and the exhausts is one of these areas. The Tamiya exhausts are not very well done. The pipes aren't hollowed out so they do not look remotely realistic.

The Ultracast Exhausts are beautifully designed and flawlessly cast. I got out my calipers to make sure there would be not fit problems and the resin exhausts are a perfect fit. The last bit of the exhaust tubes are hollowed out and with a black wash will be very effective looking. They also have the cast mold line down their centre.....do not remove this....the original full sized exhausts were cast iron and had the same mold seam line.

I highly recommend these exhausts the next time you build the Tamiya "Dora"...they will make all the difference in the world for the final look of your Fw-190D.
