-------------------------

Here's a review of the first new 1/32 sheet from Afterburner Decals.

Current F-16CG Block 40 markings for two Commander's jets, one for Operation Iraqi Freedom and one for OIF II, plus 2 line jets

Jets included (all F-16CG Block 40):

  • 88-0421 (June 2003 - Al Udied, Qatar)
  • 88-0512 (June 2003 - Al Udied, Qatar)
  • 88-0471 (Oct/Nov 2004 - Balad AB, Iraq)
  • 88-0509 (Oct/Nov 2004 - Balad AB, Iraq)

There is 1 complete set of stencils included. The decals are sized for the Tamiya kit.

The decals are in-register, clear and are beautifully printed. Many of the tail markings and badges are 2 piece decals, ensuring good registry.

Decals are even included for the boarding ladder.

The color instruction sheet has 4-view drawings to assist in decal placement and the paint scheme. Also, modeler notes point out tips on specific decals.

There is an outstanding additional 2-sided sheet included. It contains extensive text on:

  • Aircraft Notes
  • Modeling Notes
  • Deployment Notes for both deployments
  • A graphical display and chart, for both deployments, showing weapon's configurations

The other side of the sheet has detailed 4-view drawings for stencil placement, as well as the 10 structural strength plates (scab plates), which are also sold as an aftermarket item by Afterburner Decals. That item is AD32A.

Special thanks are given to SSgt. Steve "Bonk" Gibson of the 421st FS, the dedicated crew chief on 88-0512.
