-------------------------

Here's a review of a new 1/48 sheet from Afterburner Decals.

Current F-16C/D Block 40 markings for 524th FS Commander's jet,  plus 4 line jets. The 524th FS jets are subjects that have been neglected in decal form up until now.

Jets included:

  • 90-0776 F-16CG 524th FS Commander's jet (2 markings choices, one with mission marks)
  • 89-2008 F-16CG with mission marks
  • 88-0170 F-16DG
  • 89-2083 F-16CG
  • 89-2169 F-16DG

There are 2 complete sets of stencils included. The decals are sized for the Hasegawa kits.

The decals are in-register, clear and are beautifully printed. Many of the tail markings and badges are 2 piece decals, ensuring good registry.

The color instruction sheet has 4-view drawings to assist in decal placement and the paint scheme. Also, modeler notes point out tips on specific decals.

There is an outstanding additional 2-sided sheet included. It contains extensive text on:
  • Aircraft Notes
  • Modeling Notes
  • Deployment Notes for both deployments
  • A graphical display and chart, for both deployments, showing weapon's configurations

The other side of the sheet has detailed 4-view drawings for stencil placement, as well as the 10 structural strength plates (scab plates).

A small note on the page with the aircraft side-profiles and markings: The modeler's note about items in parentheses, on the left top side, seems to have cut off some text. The text "the opposite side" is supposed to be there. But I assume most modelers would have figured that out.

Special thanks are given to:

  • Capt Robert Brooks
  • Capt Matt Malan
