These new resin AIM-9X
Sidewinder missiles from Zactomodels
are mastered by Master Modeller Alexander Rogal.
The AIM- 9
Sidewinder is a short range heat seeking air-to-air missile used on a variety of
aircraft in 28 different countries. The name Sidewinder was chosen as it
refers to a venomous rattlesnake of the same name, which uses infrared sensory organs to hunt warm-blooded prey.
To date the AIM-9 has scored 270 aircraft kills worldwide.
The AIM-9X
Sidewinder entered service in November 2003 with the USAF (lead platform is the F-15C; the USN lead platform is the F/A-18C) and is a substantial upgrade to the Sidewinder family.
It has a claimed 90° off-boresight capability, but newer models should be able
to perform in a 360° environment and newer versions could be used internally in
the F-22 and F-35.

Each set includes 2
complete missiles with custom MV Products seeker heads, electrical umbilicals,
and seeker head covers. Also included are optional exhausts for training
versions. The detailing is very crisp and rich and exactly the high
quality we've come to expect from Zactomodels.
There is one page of
instruction that covers the assembly process that cover everything very well
with live drawing and text.
There is an in-progress
thread on the ARC
Discussion Forums.
I'm quite excited to see Zactomodels
coming out with some US missiles to compliment their highly respected Russian
missiles. The addition of the seeker head covers is a fantastic idea.
