This
one's a bit of a legend! The place in question is near the little village
of Penmachno in Snowdonia, rugged hill-farming country. One of the
local farmers was fed up with the Hawks from 4 FTS (Flight Training
School) using his farm as a reference Point during low-level flying. He
claimed that the jets upset his sheep, especially at lambing time.
So, he got tired of phoning the base at RAF Valley to complain and decided
to voice his opinion on the shed roof. Naturally, it was spotted by
the eagle-eyed aircrew and word soon got around. Not only were the Hawks
coming to see the message, but just about every pilot in the RAF and Fleet
Air Arm heard about the graffiti and came to see it! Then, the USAF got to
hear about it! Biggles a
very old British air ace story character from the 1930's. The stories were
immensely popular in the
