F-16 block table

By Mike Valdez

--------------------------------

This is a basic block breakdown for All USAF/ANG production F-16's.

Model

     Block

Engine

 Airframe characteristics & changes

 Intake

F-16A

1-10 and FSD

P&W   F-100-200

Small stabs. Lower UHF/VHF antenna located under intake

   NSI

F-16A

   15 A-

P&W   F-100-200

This block started the large stabs, now standard. The lower IFF antenna moved to the lower

   NSI

forward fuselage as a two blade antenna, just aft of the radome. Later block 15's (mostly

Belgium and Danish) received the 2 slot (C-model standard) gun muzzle. The cockpit

arrangement changed with the rear CP Radar display and LCD display side by side.

F-16A

   20 A-C

P&W   F-100-220

These Vipers are actually production MLU F-16A's. All were made in the mid-90's and have

   NSI

basic equivilant to a block 40 (limited) cockpit, but retain the F-16A parabrake tail and light

weight landing gear

F-16C

   25 A-F

P&W   F-100-200

Aircraft 83-1118 is the first production C model.  The cockpit is redesigned with the 2 MFD's

   NSI

F-100-220E

and slightly larger HUD. The tail base was made larger (for the ASPJ ECM sys. That never

happened). Gun muzzle, ECS exhaust, and gun load panel were all changed as well.

F-16C

   30 A-C

GE  F-110-100

Aircraft 85-1398 1st production B-30. Essentially the same on the outside as the block 25's,

   NSI

aside from the obvious GE nozzle installed. This includes the F-16N and all IAF F-16 B-30's

F-16C

   30 D

GE  F-110-100

Aircraft 86-0262 is the first block 30 that was produced with the large (Big-mouth) inlet. Also,

   MCID

the RWR antennas were moved to the LEF's (Leading Edge Flaps). The tail base side vents

and scoop just behind the upper UHF/VHF antenna, were fitted

F-16C

   32 A-Q

P&W  F-100-220

These are basically the same externally as the block 25's, but have the RWR antennas on

   NSI

the LEF's like the Block 32

F-16CG

   40 A-R

GE  F-110-100

This block (89-2030-) is where the airframe was fitted with larger MLG & NLG struts, larger

   MCID

MLG wheels (Heavy weight gear) and bulged gear MLG doors.  It retains the large inlet and

also, the landing and taxi lights were moved from the struts, to the NLG, as a square assem-

bly. The cockpit changed with the addition of the WAR or LANTIRN HUD. Also fitted, are the

LANTIRN and NAV Pods for the laser designator Air-to-ground role. NOTE: that the original

block 40 MLG wheels were the triangular hole style, and most (If not all) USAF & ANG block

40/42's have been retrofitted to the circular hole block 50 type wheels.

F-16CG

   42 A-K

P&W  F-100-220

This block (87-0356-) is essentially the same as the block 40, but it has the P&W motor and

   NSI

the small inlet

F-16CJ

   50 A-Q

GE  F-110-129

This block retains all of the airframe upgrades of the block 40, but does not have the WAR

   MCID

or LANTIRN HUD, but rather the block 30 type HUD, though upgraded digitally. In place of

the Air-to-ground role, it's fitted with the HTS (HARM Targeting System) for the SEAD role

or Wild Weasel and is of course HARM capable.

F-16CJ

   52 A-Q

P&W  F-100-229

This block is the same as the Block 50, but has the P&W -229 and small inlet.
