Replacing pitot tubes

with steel needles

Are you sick and tired of breaking the delicate plastic pitot tubes on your aircraft models? Here is a quick tip about replacing them with steel needles which are virtually unbreakable.

1.

Glue the needle to the tip of the radome and wrap tissue paper around it to give the shape. Put a couple of drops of superglue onto paper and it will absorb the superglue and harden, keeping the shape.

2.

Refine the shape by sanding with sandpaper.

3.

After the sanding is complete give it a coat of Mr surfacer 500 or your favorite putty. Liquid putties are easier to work here but any type would do the job

4.

Sand the putty, giving the pitot tube its final shape.

5.

Brush on silver paint to check for irregularities, and it's done. The complete process takes 10 minutes max, and your pitot tube will not break. (OK will not break that easy )
