SAINT (Strategic Artificially Intelligent Nuclear Transport) prototype Number five was created by NOVA labs as a robotic solider for the U.S. military during the cold war. Armed with a high powered shoulder mounted laser the SAINT robots would be a formidable weapon that would never need sleep and could tolerate a wider variety of climates then human soldiers. The SAINT prototypes also came equipped with a parachute so that they could be dropped behind enemy lines and deliver a nuclear warhead to a specific site.

Number fives career as a weapon of war ended when a lightning bolt caused a power surge while he was charging. The electrical surge altered number fives programming and caused a malfunction that lead to number five becoming sentient. Number five subsequently wandered off NOVA labs property and began to learn about the world around him.

After befriending an animal loving women and being reunited with his inventor, number five demonstrates his sentience and his desire to not have his programming wiped. After narrowly escaping capture by NOVA labs security squad (who views Number five as a dangerous threat that must be destroyed) number five is finally able to escape to safety by faking his own death.

Before going into hiding Number five chooses his new name, Johnny Five. Johnny would eventually save the day once again in "Short Circuit 2"

Here's Johnny with laser armed!

About the model:
This is a limited edition injection plastic toy that was available to uber fans of "Short Circuit." Its stands 13" tall and is posable. The details are very accurate but it came with a poor paint job. I stripped it down and cleaned a few rough edges up. A fresh paint job really makes Johnny come to life. I added a few details like the wires running to the head module. The laser pack is interchangeable with the red toolbox Johnny wears in "Short Circuit 2." The finished product closely resembles the toy Johnny Fives featured in "Short Circuit 2." Definitely one of the more fun builds I've done in a while.
