I do enjoy the challenges of the classics from time to time. I also get fixated on certain subject matters. These two threads came to an intersection Regarding the Battle of Britain and the Monogram Do-17. I have been keeping my eye out for something a little different regarding the B.O.B and the Dornier struck a nerve.

I found this treasure at the Hamilton, Ontario model show last year for $5.00 and the project was off. I discovered there is no other kit of this particular B.O.B version and therefore my options became limited.  After looking at the contents, my AMS set in and I started obtaining additional details.  Quite a few dollars later I had enough to begin construction.  My main focus was enhancing the engines and the interior.  Eduard Interior photo-etch and Goffy Model resin Do-24 engine kit solved the detail issues.

Weak areas were the engines and the Interior details. Interior was nothing, engines were just a molded front section.  The Monogram kit was a nice model to work with, fine raised panel lines, crystal clear canopy components and nice landing gear details were a few of the plusses of this kit.

Once construction was completed, painting the German scheme lay ahead.

I have a tendency to use what materials I have at hand when involved in a project.  In this case a bit of a mix on the paints.  The RLM 65 and the RLM 71 were Testors acrylics, the RLM 70 was Gunze.  Lots of yellow tape for the interesting scheme.

After 3 days (Gunze curing) I Futured with excellent results, no cracking over any paint. (keep this in mind.

Decals were from Techmod and were very thin and strong.  I did have a problem trying to get any setting solutions to work, lucky the gloss coat was good.  I had just a few issues settling over some of the panel lines, glad at this point they were not recessed.

Problems arose after decals and sealing coat of Future was applied.  Cracking appeared only over the Gunze and only on the wings.  I applied about 4 coats of future only over the panels with cracks. This took car of most issues, Testors Lacquer dull coat and pastel dusting eliminated the crack issues.
