1/48 Tamiya Republic F-84G Thunderjet

The Royal Danish Air Force received the Republic F-84 Thunderjet as part of the Military Assistance Program (MAP). Delivery started in August 1951 with 6 F-84E and over the next 6 years a total of 238 F-84G where supplied from different sources. The last of the F-84Gs were phased out early 1962.

F-84s equipped 6 Squadrons (Eskadrille 725 to 730) as well as the Fighter Reconnaissance / Photo Reconnaissance (FR/PR) Flight that operated a total of 7 modified F-84G designated (R)F-84G. The (R)F-84G had a camera installed in a modified Fletcher (T-33) tip tank on the left wing and at least some of them also had a camera installed in the lower fuselage “French installation”.

The model is the standard F-84G as it looked while operated by Eskadrille 729 in the later half of the 1950s.

It is built almost straight from the box, with a few corrections to panels suggested by Dave Klaus on the Cutting Edge decal sheet, plus a little Eduard and True Detail etch.

I used the magnificent Cutting Edge F-84E/G stencil data decals sheet, Royal Danish Air Force codes and markings produced locally by Stoppel Decal. It is painted with SNJ Aluminum and Gold, Xtracolor and Humbrol.

Hope you like it.

Best regards
