This is
a almost bare of colour CF-104 Starfighter. In 1967 it was decided to use the
pattern airframe 12700 for a world record altitude attempt. Bud White flew this
aircraft as it was the most suitable for the attempt. It was lighter then the
standard CF-104 as it did not have the strengthening the rest of the fleet
received from Canadiar. It also received slightly lengthened shock cones which I
modified on the model using putty and sandpaper.

In the
end the world record remained with the Russians but a new Canadian record was
set that stands till this day.
The model is a
F-104G with modified shock cones, and landing gear doors taken from a less then
worthy old kit. I had a resin seat left over from an old project that spiced up
the cockpit. The decals are from Belcher Bits. I really like the way the silver
RCAF X 700 looks like it was polished off the airframe. The real photos show
they were hardly noticeable once removed but I liked the effect. The real 700
has been in the Canadian air museum in Ottawa since shortly after the record
attempt.
