This is the Tamiya 1/48 Mig-15 in Chinese markings from the Korean War period. I built the kit straight from the box and used the kit decals. I tried masking the camo scheme and airbrushing it, but ended up free-handing it with a brush. The base camo color is Tamiya Sky and the dark green is Model Master Medium Green FS34102. I used Aero Master Army Gray for the undersides. I have had this kit in my stash for a number of years, so when I started applying the decals, one of them disintegrated. I had to coat the decals with clear lacquer to try and keep them from breaking apart. Some of them did anyway, so I had to delete some of the wing insignia decals.

Like most Tamiya kits, the fit is very good, and the cockpit is reasonably well detailed. I particularly like the way Tamiya engineered the landing gear on this and other kits: when you glue them to the aircraft, they are in the correct positions and are very sturdy. Another nice feature of this kit is a well-detailed engine. The kit also includes a maintenance cart for the rear tail section and a nice boarding ladder.

Tamiya released this kit in 1996, but it is still a nice kit in spite of its age.
