This is my 1/48
MiG31 by Lindberg. The kit is very much a builders kit. Which means it gives the
basic shape of the jet, and any detail has to be built by the modeler. I started
this kit back in 2002, and after a lot of fiddling with it, it got finally done.

The details of what
I changed or did for this build are too many, so this is a brief summary of this
build:
-
1. All panel
lines rescribed (I know there are no panel lines on this bird, but I have
seen pics with what looks to me like panel lines)
-
2. Pre-shaded all
such lines
-
3. All rivets
redone (also, some pics show something that look a lot like rivets to me)
-
4. Scratch built
front landing gear (the kit has it like an F15, folding forwards and the bay
doors are a joke. I redid that, moved the landing gear forward, made the
lights, added wire, and more)
-
5. Added wire to
the rear landing gear
-
6. 2 resin K36
seats, the glass is one piece and did not bother cutting it to show the
detail added in the cockpit

This was a very challenging
build, but am happy it got done. This is the largest kit in the collection, and
it looks great next to the Fulcrums. Even though the kit is very wrong on a lot
of areas, it is the only one in 1/48, and no MiG collection could be complete
without it, in my opinion. So it was worth the time.
Enjoy the pictures! Here is how
the MiG Alley looks now a days.
