This
is Hasegawa’s 1/72 Lancaster BIII. This build took me a little under 2 months to complete.
The
kit itself builds up very nicely – it benefits from a little scratchbuilding
in the cockpit area, the navigators table requires some attention and the pilots
seat benefits from some extra detailing using styrene card and fusewire, as well
as metal foil seatbelts. The gun turrets were also detailed again with wire and
styrene card to look a little ‘busier’.

There
are a couple of kit errors, the canopy escape hatch is too far forward and
requires moving back by 1 frame, this is a simple sand/polish/re-masking job,
and also the kit tailwheel is way oversized and was replaced by the airfix
version generously donated by a fellow modeller.
The
model is painted in Lifecolour acrylics, mixed to resemble RAF dark earth and
green camouflage,
I
opted not to use the kit markings and went with Xtradecal markings to represent
a late version Lanc from 100 Squadron, Waltham.
I
hope you like the end result, I wanted to portray a classic aeroplane that
looked like it has been to hell and back a few times. Having completed this
project I am in no doubt that this kit is the finest option for those wanting to
build World War 2’s heaviest lifter.
Thanks
for looking, and happing modelling.
John
