Scratch-built 1:144 HS 748 VARIG

by Marcos Borges

--------------------

This is my first try at building a model totally from scratch. There is no available kit of the HS 748 here in Brazil and I always wanted to build one in the VARIG old colors.  It is mostly built from scrap wood with small pieces like the spinners and antennas made from sprue and plastic sheet.  The pictures below show some of the steps in the building process. The paint is acrylic applied with a brush over three coats of primer.  The decals came from FCM, a decal maker in Brazil, and were adapted from a DC3 sheet for the VARIG colors in the same scale.

As a scratch-built model there are many errors and inaccuracies, but the overall aspect was good to me.  I also decided to leave the model as it were in flight with no landing gear and propellers.  I hope you enjoy it.

I have learned a lot with this model and now I’m going to the next project: a Convair 440 in the same livery.
