When our
Chinese friends issued this late Wyvern S.4 in 1/48, I fell in love with
it/her right away. Compared to a Spitfire she won´t win the beauty
contest, but she´s got that "je ne sais quoi / I don't know
what...". Maybe a mixture of brutish, yet elegant appearance implying
sheer power. In regard to it´s protracted developmental period, the
Westland Wyvern´s active career on Royal Navy carrier decks was quite
short-lived.
The kit itself
featured a wealth of parts furnished with wonderful surface details and a
good fit - guaranteeing an enjoyable build without any mentionable
problems. My model depicts a late series Wyvern serialled WN 335 assigned
to 831 Sqn, embarked on HMS Ark Royal in 1957.

Overall this kit was built
straight out of the box, only the kit´s ejection seat had been replaced
by a much better detailled NeOmega Mk.2 seat. The paint job was done using
acrylics from Gunze (surfaces) and XtraColor matt varnish.
