I present to my
fellow ACR'ers my last 1/72 fighter. The ol' eyes can't do it anymore. I
utilized the Airies cockpit, True Detail wheels and Squadron Signal canopy. The
brake line are wire and stretched spruce makes up the antenna. Super Scale
decals were used. These were the only disappointing after market items I
used. Really translucent and the starboard tail buno were colored backwards. I
used them anyway as I don't foresee taking this project to the Columbus
Nat's.

I backdated the kits aux
tanks to the earlier non pressurized ones by scratch building the filler
necks, caps and a single pickup line. (no return line) It was the CMK
figures that really made me glad that, outside of the Academy B-17, my
stash is 172 aircraft free. Inner gear door actuating arms were also
scratch built. I cut up a sheet of Aires 1/72 scale .30 caliber machine
gun cooling jacket foil to simulate the screens on the air intake and the
coolant exhaust door. Quickboost P-47 barrels and Moskit exhaust stacks
finish up the non kit items.
MM enamels are my
paint of preference though I am starting to use the new WEM enamel line with
wonderful results. Decals laid down nicely using Micro Scale solutions. Panel
lines are a Windsor and Newton oil mix. Then a coat of Future, minor weathering
with chalks, more Future and then a top coat of MM acryl flat tops everything
off.
