Kit: Hasegawa
Messerschmitt Bf-109G-14 Item 09148 /Jt 48:2200
Construction
I was after a 109G
to add to my collection, so I sent Calum an E-mail to order this kit for
me. When it arrived I inspected the kit. Hasegawa has added some nice touches with a
few additional optional parts. I decided to assemble this kit OOB, I
painted the cockpit in Model Master RLM 66 finished up with some dry brushing Tamiya's
Weathering set B to highlight the cockpit detail. Construction was
pretty straight forward with Hasegawa's usual attention to detail.

Painting and Finish
This is one of the very few kits
that I did not use all the correct colours on. The top half of the 109 was
painted in Model Master Insignia White and the underside of the model was
painted in Model Master RLM 76. I used the kit decals however while placing the
Iron crosses on the 109 I used the wrong decal solution Polly Scale 505401 the
strong stuff. This messed up a few of the decals NOT HAPPY. The rest of the
decals were placed on using Polly Scale F505403 with a coat of Humbrol gloss
clear over the decals. The panel lines were highlighted using pastel
chalk with another coat of clear over the top, followed up with a coat of
matt clear. Using Tamiya's weathering sets I added some exhaust stains dirtied
up the landing gear and wheel wells and added soot around the
guns. This was sealed in with a coat of matt clear. All that was left was
to add the finishing touches, landing gear and cockpit window. This 109
was built to represent Kdr.I / JG53 Flown by Oblt. Erich Hartmann. Not one
of my better finished kits.
