Product Article by Steve Bamford on Dec 27 2011

The T-2 Buckeye was the USN's jet trainer intended to introduce Student Naval Aviators to jets.  It was entered service in 1959 and was replaced by the Goshawk in 2008.  The T-2 Buckeye was also sold overseas to Greece for the Hellenic Air Force and the Venezuelan Air Force.

This T-2C/D/E Buckeye sheet from Twobobs features markings for five different aircraft with enough stencils for two complete jets. This sheet includes some very colorful foreign and US options for the new Twobobs T-2C Buckeye kit.  Markings are included for Venezuelan, Hellenic and also the "Tadpole" adversary scheme from the US Navy.  These markings mirror Twobobs previous aftermarket releases in 1/48th scale.

As for the 5 T-2C/D/E Buckeyes featured on this sheet they include the following:

  • T-2E Buckeye Serial # 160083 362 Mira 120a Pterix ATC Kalamata, Greece (Hellenic Air Force) in June of 2007

  • T-2E Buckeye Serial # 160080 Greece (Hellenic Air Force)

  • T-2C Buckeye Serial # 158904 USN VF-43, NAS Oceana, VA in 1986

  • T-2C Buckeye Serial # 156910 USN VF-43

  • T-2D Buckeye # 0048 Venezuelan Air Force Academy in 1973

With the re-release via Revell of the Matchbox kit, these markings are just in time for your 72nd scale Buckeye.

Recommended Kits:

  • Matchbox 1/72nd T-2C Buckeye

  • Revell 1/72nd T-2C Buckeye

The instructions are clear and include 4 views of each aircraft.  The decals are beautifully printed on 1 decal sheet.  Paint codes are called out in FS #'s, Testors MM, Humbrol, Gunze Sangyo and Xtracrylics.  The instruction sheets provided plenty of info and 4 view drawings showing the layout of the camo schemes.

The inclusion of the Venezuelan and Hellenic Buckeyes on this sheet make it a winner in my books as the variety of aircraft on this sheet can't be beat and the two USN the "Tadpole" adversary scheme look awesome.  Well done to Twobobs!!!

This sheet is available through http://www.twobobs.net/ and select US Hobby Shops.  Overseas customers can purchase these from Twobobs site or through Twobobs network of overseas distributors.
