WW1 Events - Sept 26  1914

Victor De Jesus starts things off with his most amazing 1/72 Testors AC-130A Spectre.  Victor got all the fine details correct including the antenna wire and the wonderfully shaded 3 tone camo scheme.  This AC-130 is sporting some great looking noseart and Victor finished it all off with some well placed paint chipping.

Nick Monopoli has captured the bare metal finish beautiful on his 1/72 Tamiya F-100D.  Nick shaded various areas of his model with different colours to get the convincing look of a operational jet with some discoloration from engine heat.

Jose Dardon is here with a classic and legendary divebomber from the TO during WW2.  This is his 1/72 Hasegawa Dauntless SBD-3.  Jose added Eduard photo etch to the cockpit....then posed the canopy open and replaced the dive brakes with Eduard PE parts.  Jose then open engine cowl flaps and gave his sun faded Dauntless a spectacular paint job.

David Campbell has dropped by with his 1/48 Tamiya F4F4 Wildcat.  David built this one during a weekend....and the end results are quite nice indeed.  Really makes you wonder why it's takes the rest of us months to get anything done on a kit.

Gary Wickham has done a spectacular job on his 1/48 Monogram F-5E Tiger II.  Gary finished his F-5 in the markings for VFC-13 Fighting Saints.  This model is stunning from front to back....in and out.  You must check out the cockpit in this one.

Orlando Sucre Rosales has completed the classic 1/72 Airfix Vampire FB.5 “Sharkmouth Squadron” with great style.  He tells the full built story in his article and I do think there is much good to be said for building one of the older kits.  All the best to everyone in Venezuela.

Juan Ramon Garcia is here with a great looking 1/72 Fujimi TA4-J finished as a 2 seat Israeli trainer using Isradecals.  Juan scratchbuilt the tailpipe for added detail.  The camo on the Israeli jets always looks great from every angle.

Darius Aibara has done a first class job on his 1/48 AMT/ERTL Skyraider AEW4.  Darius finished his Skyraier in Royal Navy markings for an aircraft used during Operation Musketeer in 1956 during the Suez crisis.  Darius folded the wings himself with his scratchbuilding talent with excellent results.

WW1 Events - Sept 12  1914

Victor De Jesus gets things started in style with his big and very impressive looking 1/225 Revell H.M.S. Victory.  Victor visited the real ship before he began this monumental project which gave him excellent reference photos.  The fact this looks like a wooden model is what impresses me so much about this build.  Have no doubts.....this is a kit loaded with detail as you will see in Victor's photos.   Wow.....so many cannons.

Frank Crenshaw has done a top notch job on the big 1/32 Pro Modeler Messerschmitt Bf 109G-4.  Frank used reference photos to get all the tiny painting and weathering details correct and I do like the choice of camo he chose for his 109.

  • The Germans besiege and capture the Maubeuge Fortress.   August 24 – September 7
  • Battle of Lemberg. The Russians capture Lviv.   August 23 – September 11

Good job on today's update goes out to everyone in Malaysia.  I love these Malaysian updates.  I tried to get this update loaded sooner out of respect for your time zone.....but I got sidetracked moving my older daughter to her new University in a  different city.  She was very nervous.

   Happy Merdeka everyone!

Thomas “Masterqq” Ng gets this very special update started with his 1/72 Italeri Hawk 208.  Thomas combined the Italeri Hawk 100 kit with single seat resin conversion from NMA models and various decals to get this Malaysian beauty.  Very nicely done and I love the choice of markings.

Brian “MrB” Param has chosen an brilliant paint scheme for his 1/32 Hasegawa F-5E.  Brian dressed up the cockpit detail with a Verlinden cockpit set and then chose the aggressor camo scheme of a family friend and squadron commander aircraft.  This is one awesome looking Malaysian F-5.

Derek Ho has taken the weathering on his 1/48 AFV Club RF-5E Tigereye to a very high level of skill.  Derek used pre and post-shading and other techniques to achieve a flawless level of weathering this looks fantastic.  Enjoy his photos.  WOW!!!

Thomas “Masterqq” Ng is back with his second model for this special update.  This is his 1/72 Airfix Super Lynx which he built from the older Airfix Super Lynx kit.  Thomas modified the engine intakes and then built the rest of his helo OOB with decals sources from different companies.  It's good to see a Malaysian chopper on ARC....especially today.

Brian “MrB” Param has rebuilt his 1/32 Hasegawa TA-4 PTM into an inflight model.  Brian added pilots and other mods to make this Skyhawk more Malaysian specific.  Once he got all the details correct.....he used his masterful airbrushing skills to give this big Skyhawk a truly exceptional weathering job.  It doesn't get much better than this....excellent work Brian.

Thomas “Masterqq” Ng did a first class job on his natural metal 1/50 Academy F-5B.  Thomas replaced the cockpit and the job he did painting the cockpit looks very good indeed.  He then gave his natural metal F-5 just the perfect amount of weathering to achieve a level of realism.

The markings are for a Czech Fishbed complete with noseart and a sharks mouth on the centerline cannon over a first rate bare metal finish.  This is one great looking MiG-21.

Jonathan Polyakov got everything looking excellent on his folded wing 1/48 Tamiya F4U-1D Corsair.  Jonathan chose to build his sharp looking Corsair as a fighter with VF-84 aboard the USS Bunker Hill (CV-17), Feb 1945.  I love the look of his Corsair with it's folded wings.

Burkina Faso National Day

WW1 Events - August 4   1914 -
  • 09.00 (CET) 4 Aug 1914: Antoine Adolphe Fonck, aged 21, a lancer in the 2nd Lancers, becomes the first Belgian to fall in combat. He dies close to Battice as the Germans advance from the border towards Liège.
  • Germany invades Belgium to outflank the French army.
  • Britain protests the violation of Belgian neutrality, guaranteed by a treaty;
  • German Chancellor replies that the treaty is just a chiffon de papier (a scrap of paper).
  • The United Kingdom declares war on Germany.
  • The United States declares neutrality.

I have decided to begin marking the historical events of WW1 as they unfold over the next 4 years.  I have updated the ARC homepage with events that have unfolded in the time line since Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to Austria-Hungary's throne, and his wife, Sophie, were assassinated on June 28 by Serbian nationalist Gavrilo Princip while the couple were visiting Sarajevo, Bosnia.  By today...100 years ago...the British Empire has joined the declarations of war.  I like to think there was a quiet portion of all societies that had a bad feeling about the unfolding events.  I am left numb when I ponder the misery that befell the 20th century due to the actions of one student with a gun.  WW1 began the downfall of many European Empires.....and lead directly to WW2 and the downfall of the British Empire.....the continued rise of the USA....and the independence of many former European colonies....which in turn unfolded into many post war events.  The rise of the USSR could be directly connected to the cost of WW1 which lead to the Russian revolution.  There is no doubt bad events would have still happened.....but it is amazing to ponder the millions that have died since that one student killed 2 people.

Today I will only have WW1 models on ARC to remember the opening events of WW1 and no product articles out of respect for all those that were affected by this horrific conflict.

Zoran Verhovšek starts this special update with his stunning diorama.  This is his 1/48 Special Hobby Fokker B.II at a German airfield between missions.  It appears the guns are being removed for the night in the hand cart.  A very moving scene and beautifully done by Zoran.

Alain Carrette is here with his 1/48 Eduard Nieuport 11 in the markings of a Belgian ace.  Some markings were custom made and the whole diorama and model were beautifully done.  Belgium suffered horribly during WW1 and this diorama helps to acknowledge that suffering.

Diego M. Pavese is here with what I consider to be one of the best looking German aircraft from WW1.  This is his 1/48 Gavia Albatros D.1 with flawless woodgrain on the fuselage and expertly done rigging.  So beautifully done and so delicate looking.

Sören Bartusch  is here with a very special little 1/48 Eduard Sopwith 2F.1 Camel.  Sören tells the story of a raid from the British H.M.S. Furious against the airship hangars in Tondern in the summer of 1918.  Amazing work Sören.

Andrea Pomettini did quite the nice job building, detailing and finishing the 1/72 Revell Albatros D.III.  Andrea scratchbuilt some foil seatbelts, reposition the control surfaces on the tail and more.  This WW1 fighter had a wooden fuselage and Andrea did a stunning job creating the wood look on the fuselage.  This one is a beauty from every angle...enjoy the photos.

Lucian Capraru is here with something special you don't see often.  This is the 1/35 Trumpeter S-75M finished in Romanian markings and mounted on it's launching base ready for action.  Lucian modified the model to improve the accuracy and I must say the finished missile looks excellent.

Olivier Barles has been very successful weathering his 1/32 Tamiya Mustang P-51D.  This Mustang is in the markings for an aircraft flown by one of the "The Bottisham Boys" and it looks exceptional, but it is Olivier's weathering technique that brings this bare metal Mustang to life and Olivier explains his weathering technique in his article.  Beautiful work Olivier.

Eric Bade is here with his excellent looking 1/72 Hasegawa Me-262A.  Eric repainted this 262 in the markings for a famous Luftwaffe pilot with a bit of weathering to complete the look.  This one sharp looking 262.

Paul Coppin gets things started in style today with his 1/48 AMT A-20G Little Joe.  This aircraft served during WW2 in the Philippines and Paul gave it a weathering job to show the way it would look in the PTO.  Very nicely done Paul.

Serge Dompierre has done his usual flawless job on his 1/48 Heller Dassault Super Étendard.  Serge chose French Navy markings and a very attractive camo scheme.  I love the look of the camo on this jet...beautiful work Serge.

Albert Moore joins us with his beautifully done OOB build of the 1/48 Hasegawa AH-64D.  Alby chose US Army markings and his Apache looks fantastic from every angle.

Peter Doll is a very talented modeller and you will see that in his 1/48 Monogram Convair B-58A Hustler.  Peter covered his B-58 with kitchen aluminum foil, which is a very difficult thing to do, but Peter did an exceptional job with flawless results.

Solomon Islands National Day

Terrorist Subway attacks in the UK July 7 2005

Pelikan Guys are here with some photos of their recent Pelikan Guys Model Show - Riccione 2014 in Central Italy.  It looks like it was a very enjoyable day for everyone involved.....thanks for sharing guys.

Shawn "phantom" Weiler is here with his cool looking 1/48 Hasegawa A-4E.  Shawn built this one for a Group Build on ARC and I must say I love the look of the camo on this A-4.  Shawn built this one using Twobobs decals.

Dragan Cvetic is here with a chopper you don't see very often.  This is his 1/72 Heller Soko Gazelle Gama in the markings of a Yugoslav Gazelle complete with missiles.  I love the look of this chopper.

Bill Bulek is here from Canada with his 1/32 Academy F-18, which turned out looking excellent....Bill has a very funny story about his CF-18.

H.Ufuk Aydiner is here with a camo scheme I love to see on the 109.  This is his 1/48 Hasegawa Me-109 F4 in a flawlessly done winter camo.  This is a very tricky paint scheme to do, but Ufuk got his 109 looking perfect.
